How to play
- The host opens with a simple sentence, such as One morning, Sam found a mysterious key on the doorstep.
- The next player continues with a sentence that begins with Fortunately and adds something good.
- The following player answers with Unfortunately and adds a setback that follows from the last line.
- Keep alternating around the group, making each sentence connect to the one before it.
- After two or three laps, the host asks the next player to bring the story to a happy ending.
Tips
- Keep setbacks light and silly, like a flock of pigeons or a sudden rainstorm, rather than anything scary.
- On a video call, post the speaking order in the chat to avoid awkward pauses.
Variations
- Work twist: start with a scenario like Our team just got the go-ahead to open an office on the moon.
- Written chain: pass a shared document around and read the full story aloud at the end.
