Six-Word Stories
Everyone writes a story in exactly six words about a shared prompt, then the group reads them aloud and enjoys the variety.
- Time
- 10 to 15 minutes
- People
- 3 to 30
- Where
- In person or Virtual
- You need
- paper and pens or the video call chat
How to play
- Share a prompt, such as my week so far, my job explained to a child, or the best day this year.
- Give an example: Coffee spilled, deadline met, team cheered.
- Allow three minutes for everyone to write their own story using exactly six words.
- On a video call, ask everyone to type their story in the chat but wait to press send until the host counts down.
- Read the stories aloud, or let each author read their own, and invite quick reactions.
- Finish by voting for a favorite or picking a few to post on the team board.
Tips
- Reassure people that funny, plain or odd stories are all welcome; there is no right style.
- Anyone who prefers not to read aloud can have the host read their story for them.
Variations
- Team story: small groups write one six-word story together, which sparks lively debate.
- Project wrap-up: sum up a finished project in six words as a light retrospective.
