Squiggle Starter
Everyone starts with the same random squiggle and has three minutes to turn it into a drawing, then the group compares results.
- Time
- 5 to 10 minutes
- People
- 3 to 40
- Where
- In person or Virtual
- You need
- paper, pens or markers
How to play
- The host draws a simple squiggle, like a loop with a zigzag tail, and shows it on screen or on a board.
- Everyone copies the squiggle onto their own paper in roughly the same size and spot.
- Set a three-minute timer for players to turn the squiggle into any picture they like.
- When time is up, everyone holds their drawing up at once or posts a photo in the chat.
- Ask a few people to explain what they made and note how differently one shape was seen.
Tips
- Point out that wildly different results are the goal, which makes it a gentle warm-up for brainstorming.
- Anyone who would rather not draw can write what the squiggle reminds them of instead.
Variations
- Pass it on: after one minute, everyone passes the paper to the next person to keep adding.
- Theme squiggle: the drawing must become something related to your team's work.
