Twenty Questions
One player thinks of a person, place or thing, and the group has twenty yes-or-no questions to figure out what it is.
- Time
- 5 to 15 minutes
- People
- 3 to 20
- Where
- In person or Virtual
- You need
- Nothing
How to play
- Choose a first answerer, who silently picks an object, animal, place or well-known character.
- The rest of the group takes turns asking questions that can be answered with yes or no.
- A volunteer counts the questions aloud or in the chat so everyone knows how many remain.
- Anyone can make a guess on their turn, but a wrong guess counts as a question.
- If the group guesses within twenty questions, they win; if not, the answerer reveals the answer and wins.
- The person who guessed correctly, or the next in line, becomes the new answerer.
Tips
- Agree on a category before each round, such as things in this building, to make it easier for newer players.
- Coach the group to start broad, with questions like is it alive or is it bigger than a chair.
Variations
- Team versus team: each team picks an answer for the other, and the team that needs fewer questions wins.
- Rapid round: cut the limit to ten questions for a five-minute warm-up.
